Sturgis Virgin

Good Morning Everyone! I really hope you are all having a fantastic Summer so far. I myself am having probably the best year in my 43 years of existence. Other than all the big events, marriage & Kids and all that. I’ve been on a trout fishing trip with my Brother. I went to AC/DC in Minneapolis with my wife and just last week I went to the 85th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with some friends. Most of you who know me are probably like “oh my, he went to Sturgis?” “I thought he didn’t like large groups of people?” You are 100% right I don’t like large groups of people. I’ve gotten used to the week of, and day of the Fun Run, with some pharmaceutical help. Sturgis was like anything I’ve ever experienced. My Anxiety was on such high alert and my brain was trying to process each and every bike and person we met and passed on the roads. Think Squirrel in the middle of the road not knowing which way to run! The First day of riding was not fun or enjoyable for me. I kept falling behind the group and was shaky in each and every turn. I almost quit halfway through the day. Ryan & Joe, the guys that lead the Fun Run each year, really helped me get out of my own head and enjoy the rest of the day and week. Once I realized that I can only control what I do and to just ignore (for the most part) what is going on around me, it became the most fun I’ve had on 2 wheels ever! The sheer beauty of the Black Hills and surrounding area are something each and every person needs to do at least once in your life. Walking down the Historic Main Street with bikes lined up down the middle and on both sides with vendors everywhere was also fun but for me it was the riding. Coming from Iowa it was really hard not to wave at each bike you meet but if you did that your hand would never be on the handlebars. Thousands and thousands of bikes everywhere you went and on every road you were on. Each of us out there enjoying the area in our own way. The two wheel American Dream you could say. I hope you all have a great rest of your Summer an we will be seeing you again next May!! ~Joey D.
